Embracing the Unknown
Ok, we will take care of the elephant in the room right away.
I too, have no idea how i was able to marry such a beautiful and smart woman. The best I can come up with is that with her Masters in Psychology, I was chosen by her as some life-long case study for her or she lost a bet. Either way, I walked away the winner in it all.
I was 49 years old, seemingly healthy, as I sit in an oncologists office being told, without actually being told, that they believe that I have cancer from the HPV virus I contracted 20+ years ago. My immediate thought was of a decade previous, watching cancer slowly snuff the light out of my mother from esophageal cancer. Then worry of what i need to do to take care of my beautiful wife. Then fear, a fear like no other I have ever had.
Little did I know what was in store for my wife and I in the months to come. I could not have dreamed up this story.
I guess that’s why I’m telling it…
